Federal Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley, is urging all eligible Farrer residents to ensure that they are correctly enrolled to vote, ahead of a likely federal election later this year.
“Australia Day is an opportune time for eligible Australians to ensure that they are correctly enrolled to vote. There are over 1.3 million eligible Australians who are not currently enrolled and with a federal election likely to be called during the year I am urging all who can vote, to now check and update their details.” said Ms Ley.
“To enrol to vote or update your details voters can complete and return an enrolment form, which is available on the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website or from the AEC office, Australia Post, Medicare, Centrelink or Australian Tax Office.”
Ms Ley says that it is compulsory for Australian citizens aged 18 years and older to enrol to vote and they must be enrolled in order to participate in Australian elections.
“The AEC website is available in 26 languages and there are also details of a telephone interpreter service.”
For further information on enrolling to vote please contact the Australian Electoral Commission by telephoning 13 23 26 or visiting their website www.aec.gov.au.
