Job figures show employers have stopped listening
08-December-2011
The latest unemployment figures indicate it’s not just the banks who’ve stopped listening to the Federal Treasurer.
The Opposition’s spokesperson for Employment Participation, Sussan Ley, says “today’s jobs data shows bosses are simply not buying Wayne Swan’s happy-face economic forecasting”.
“The Christmas lead up is not the time of year for employment to be trending down.”
“Labor is promising a surplus they won’t deliver on, Wayne Swan’s forecast of half a million new jobs is in tatters and they can’t manage their own affairs, let alone a flat economy.”
Australian Bureau of Statistics figures released this morning show a decrease in full-time employment by 39,900 people in the last month, offset slightly by an increase in part-time employment, up 33,600.
Ms Ley says “unfortunately, even this increase in part time work saw the overall number of hours people are receiving dropping substantially”.
“Employers put people on when they feel good about the future and, honestly, right now many businesses are just hanging on for dear life. They’ve lost faith in Labor, simple as that”, Ms Ley concluded.
