21,000 Australian families hit by Greens hypocrisy
24-August-2011
The two political parties happy to hack into your cost of living with a new Carbon Tax…have done it again. This time it’s the childcare costs of thousands of Australian families.
According to Shadow Minister for Childcare, Sussan Ley, “the Australian Greens performed yet another act of political bastardry today, voting with the ALP in the Senate to slash nearly $700 per year from the annual Childcare rebate”.
The 50% rebate on childcare fees had risen to $8,179, however the Gillard Government decided to cut and cap this figure at $7500, a budget saving measure to finance the administration of its new National Quality standards between now and 2014.
“This is a double whammy”, says Ms Ley. Mums and Dads are now facing fee rises
between $5 to $20 a day because of the new compulsory standards, but with less support from the Government to afford them.”
Stringing along the childcare industry for months, as recently as the weekend Greens childcare spokesperson,Sarah Hanson-Young, again feigned ‘concern about any changes to the childcare rebate that would make it harder for families to access affordable services’.
According to Ms Ley “sadly Ms Hanson-Young and her senatorial sidekicks were not concerned enough to stop covert and grubby backroom deals with the Government at the expense of hard working families”.
