Labor fails on Basin Plan
28-November-2011

I described last year’s Guide as an act of sabotage and nothing has changed.
It’s lazy work from the Authority. One year on and we’re even less clear on which valleys will have water taken from them, other than 85% of the Basin’s south copping most of the pain.”
Ultimately it is the Federal Government which owns this plan and Tony Burke can’t keep handballing blame on the Authority. Canberra continues with a relentless water buyback, filling dams with water yet still haven’t announced what they’re going to do with it.
Under this plan, during the recent drought, our food prices would have tripled, with over
2000 environmental wetlands being watered. Is that really what we want to see?
The Coalition remains firmly committed to the 10-point plan for the Basin we announced almost five years ago; a plan which balances economic, social and environmental outcomes.
Julia Gillard & Tony Burke don’t come from regional Australia and they don’t know how
the country works. Regional Australia has become their play thing, with the Greens & Independents writing the rules.
