Basin Inquiry back on the Murray
24-March-2011
The House of Representatives Parliamentary Committee inquiring into the Murray Darling Basin Authority’s ‘Basin Plan’ honours its commitment to Swan Hill next Wednesday.
The 12 member all-party Committee was forced to postpone its January 20th public hearing when unprecedented floodwaters heavily impacted from the North and Northwest of Victoria.
Committee member and local MP for Farrer, Sussan Ley, says “while some of the region is still emerging from flood, I’m pleased we could reschedule a suitable date in this pivotal centre of the basin community”.
The Inquiry’s terms of reference require it to specifically focus on the socio‐economic impact of the ‘Guide to the Proposed Basin Plan’ and other measures available to increase water efficiency and reduce consumption in each local area.
The Committee’s rescheduled public hearing in Swan Hill is on;
